Product Description

Z1 Street Pro R200 Limited Slip Differential was produced exclusively for all 350Z and G35 manual transmission models.  The benefit of the upgrade is not only on acceleration, significant improvements are experienced in corner entry, overall cornering stability & corner exit.  This leads to a safer and more controlled driving experience and yields the driver more confidence at the limit.

Z1 Street Pro Differential

The factory differential in many 350Z and G35 manual transmission models is a standard open differential.  The biggest flaw with open differentials is their inability to distribute power between both wheels. With an open differential torque is applied equally between both wheels, however in situations where wheel slip occurs (such as rapid acceleration) the slipping wheel will receive almost all torque. This imbalance between the left and right wheel leads to poor cornering stability and poor straight line acceleration, infamously known as the "one wheel peel".  The factory upgrade to this is the OE Viscous Limited Slip Differential.  While the VLSD is an upgrade from the base open differential, they often wear out over time and despite their ideology of being non-newtonian fluid, the tolerances inside the housing change and fluid leaks out over time.  Long story short high operating temps in the differential lead to poor and inconsistent performance with the viscous.  Often their performance will become erratic at times behaving like an open differential making the car unpredictable at the limit and ultimately leading to poor performance.      

The Z1 Limited Slip Differential (SP) addresses these shortcomings without giving up great street manners.  The SP is a helical differential that is a dramatic improvement over open &  viscous differentials given its considerably greater ability to distribute torque at both wheels. With its internal gear design, it boasts exemplary street manners and is operationally quiet when compared to clutch type differentials that have a tendency to chatter or clunk when cornering at low speeds because of axle bind. The Z1 SP differential is a helical unit that exhibits no axle bind and provides smooth operation in any circumstance. Because of the internal construction the Z1 SP is low maintenance (only regular fluid service intervals) and ensures exceptional life span with no special fluids or friction modifiers needed. Standard fluid may be used, however Z1 recommends the use of Red Line or Motul differential fluid.

Installation Note

It is VERY IMPORTANT that this installation is done by a competent and experienced driveline shop. Incorrect gear pattern, out of spec back-lash or pre-load will result in accelerated wear, noise, etc.

 

NOTE: This Limited Slip Differential is only compatible with Manual Class Final Drive Ratios.

If you choose to locate a driveline shop for installation, we recommend purchasing new side bearing and side axle seals. As a convenience, this has been included as an option below. (Different spec side shims may be needed for install - available separately HERE).

It put it into my automatic 2008 g35x and I love it I got a awd switch but no check engine lights or anything on the dash better than the stock limited slip I can spin way better now

Oh, what a difference. This, paired with a higher final drive (ring/pinion, I went with Z1's 4.09 and I love it) and now the car sticks to the road like glue. Anytime I was pulling out into traffic with the stock VLSD I would feel the outside tire just one wheel peelin' until I got the car straight again it wouldn't grab for nothing. This is a torsen style diff and really suits to what this car was made for. If you're looking to go really fast in a straight line this isn't quite what you're looking for, but if you're into the twistys / autocross / spirited driving this diff makes the driving experience so much more exhilarating . Also this diff is much more predictable in inclement weather. Highly recommend, diffs are pricey but this one is worth it. ALSO: if you are not familiar with how the rear diff is put together/operates pay a professional to install/setup your diff/ring/pinion. Being off by 10 thousandths of an inch can ruin your $3000 differential build.

I chose this LSD w/ Stub Axels, bearings and seals to replace my oem open diff, very happy with the results. I included the Z1 bushing set, Z1 rear diff cover, and Z1 rear diff brace to tie it all together (also very happy with all those bits too).

Huge improvement over the factory open differential. The cornering is precise and I can hold a turn a higher speeds going uphill. Can't wait to see how it performs in rain and light snow.
