Frustrated by the goofy hood prop rod embarrassing you at car shows and getting in the way while you are working under the hood? The Z1 Hood Strut Kit fits all '03-'07 G35 Coupe and '03-'06 G35 Sedan models and replaces the original hood prop rod with two gas-charged hood struts for a cleaner looking engine bay and easier service.
Installation is simple, the provided mounting bracket and ball stud are installed in existing holes on your G's chassis. No modification to the chassis is required. You will have to trim the black plastic battery cover shroud and brake fluid reservoir shroud (if equipped) to install the lower mounting stud.
These hood struts are intended for OE aluminum hoods only. Use with fiberglass or carbon fiber hoods could result in damage. If you are installing these on a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood, we recommend exercising caution when closing the hood to minimize the risk of damage.

Be careful installing and test test test. Can mess up fenders and stuff if not put on correct. But once one is cool and nice to have instead of having the stand all the time in the way

Here’s my review on the hood struts from Z1:
Installation: it was really easy to install. It took no more than 15 minutes to put on with a couple of hand tools. Nothing fancy needed to install these things. As always, make sure the hood doesn’t rub against the fender when closing.
Build quality: it seems to made of good quality materials, doesn’t feel cheap or anything. I haven’t seen any other strut kits for the G35 so this being the first one I’ve seen, they did well.
Functionality: well, it does what it’s supposed to do. It’s supposed to replace the use of the stick that holds the hood. Makes the appearance look more clean as well. So with those with show worthy engine bays: get it. You won’t regret it. It also makes servicing any engine related things a bit easier as well as there isn’t a stick in the way.
Longevity: well, I’ve only had this for a couple of days at the time of this review, so I’ll have to see how long these will last for. They do come with a 1 year warranty however in case if something fails (which seems unlikely)
Overall: I think it was worth purchasing the item. It does what it’s supposed to do and wasn’t made with cheap materials. Not going to lie, I wished it raised the hood a bit higher than it’s stock height with the stick but oh well. I installed this on my ‘04 G35 coupe with an OEM hood. I am not so sure how this will do with a carbon fiber hood or a fiber glass hood. So don’t take this review too seriously if you have something aftermarket. I’m not sure how that will perform. Regardless, nice one Z1!

First impressions are great. Installation is really easy, the build quality of all the parts feels solid, the struts are plenty strong, it improves the look of the engine bay once I removed the old bar and it’s pieces, and the hood opens a little bit higher than it used to. There’s no way to know the longevity right now since this kit has been out for less than a week as I write this.
