Let's be honest. Nissan's factory cupholder inserts have one hell of a grip. They grab your bottle, can, or coffee cup and refuse to let go. Unfortunately, when you finally pull your drink out, they seem to think they're coming with you. Congratulations. You just took the cupholder to work.
Okay Z1, what's the pitch?
Z1's Cup Holder Insert was designed to hold on without being clingy. Made from flexible EPDM synthetic rubber, the insert uses multiple flexible tabs and a tapered base to wrap around your drink and keep it snugly in place. Skinny 8 oz cans? Yep. 12 oz short cans? Absolutely. 16 oz cans, skinny cans, big-ass water bottles, Hydro Flask-style bottles? It'll take (almost) whatever you're putting in there, up to a nearly 3" bottle.
And yes, we thought about the other half of the equation: the cupholder itself needs to stay put.
A folding outer lip grabs the factory cupholder opening and keeps the insert securely seated in the console. Pull your drink out and the cupholder stays where it belongs instead of coming along for the ride.
It's got a good grip, but it knows when to let go.
But Wait, There's More Stuff You Can Put In The Hole
Here's where we accidentally discovered that this thing is pretty damn useful.
When you're off-roading, the cupholder often becomes the designated "stuff from my pockets" receptacle. Phones, GMRS radios, keys, sunglasses, loose change, whatever you don't want bouncing around the cabin.
The large opening and flexible fingers happen to work really well with phones and handheld GMRS radios. Most phones can slide down between the fingers and sit upright in the cupholder, keeping them reasonably secure while you're bouncing around on the trail. Handheld radios work great too, giving you an easy place to stash the radio when you're not actively using it.
Is it a replacement for a proper phone mount?
Hell no.
Is it surprisingly effective when you need somewhere to throw your phone while you're busy driving over rocks?
Hell yes.
The symmetrical design means there's no wrong way to install the inserts, and the flexible EPDM construction makes it easy to remove and clean when somebody inevitably spills a drink, drops a snack, or deposits some other mysterious trail debris into it.
And yes, we're pretty comfortable saying it's dishwasher safe. Toss it in the dishwasher and let somebody else deal with your questionable beverage residue.
