The Z1 Lower Shifter Dust Boot replaces the failure-prone rubber dust boot found on most rear-wheel drive Nissan manual transmissions and has been re-engineered using a higher grade rubber for increased durability.
When servicing cars in-house, we often find that the dust boot that covers the shifter control rod and rear of the shifter support bracket has either rotted and broken apart or is simply missing. This may seem like a small and insignificant piece, however, it has an important role to play. Keeping water and road debris away from the bottom of the shifter and the control rod prevents accelerated wear on moving parts that are not designed to be exposed to the elements.
Z1's replacement boot is manufactured from a highly durable EPDM rubber, offering great resistance to the high temperatures experienced under the car. Additionally, EPDM rubber has great elastic properties, aiding in the installation of the boot. With feedback from Z1 technicians, our engineers added two pull tabs to the front of the boot and an additional pull tab to the top to make it easier to stretch the boot over the shifter support bracket and control rod. Modifications were also made to the top of the boot to accommodate the use reusable tie strap (also included) that helps hold the boot in place and off the driveshaft.
These boots have undergone intense testing on and off the race track and have proven to be far more durable than the original boots.
