OEM Timing Chain for 2001-2004 Nissan Pathfinder models equipped with the VQ35DE powertrain.
The Timing Chain is an essential component of the engine's valve train system that controls the timing of the engine's valves. Unlike a timing belt, which is made of rubber and typically needs to be replaced at regular intervals, a timing chain is made of metal and is designed to last the life of the engine. However, there are some situations in which the timing chain may need to be replaced.
Here are some signs that the timing chain may need to be replaced:
- Engine misfires: If the timing chain becomes worn or stretched, it can cause the engine's valves to open and close at the wrong time, which can cause the engine to misfire or run unevenly.
- Engine noise: A worn or stretched timing chain can cause a rattling or clattering noise from the engine, especially at idle or under light acceleration.
- Reduced engine power: If the timing chain becomes worn, it can cause the engine to lose power, especially at higher RPMs.
- Check engine light: A malfunctioning timing chain can trigger the engine's check engine light.
- Metal shavings in the oil: If the timing chain becomes severely worn, it can cause metal shavings to appear in the engine oil.
In general, timing chains do not need to be replaced unless they become worn, stretched or damaged. Additionally, it is a good idea to replace the timing chain tensioner and guides at the same time as the timing chain.
