OEM Main Timing Chain Tensioner for 2001-2004 Nissan Pathfinder models equipped with the VQ35DE powertrain.
The Timing Chain Tensioner is responsible for keeping the timing chain taut and properly aligned. It uses oil pressure to apply tension to the timing chain and prevent it from becoming loose or slack. Over time, the timing chain tensioner may become worn or damaged and may need to be replaced.
Here are some signs that the timing chain tensioner may need to be replaced:
- Engine noise: A worn or failing timing chain tensioner can cause a rattling or clattering noise from the engine, especially at idle or under light acceleration.
- Check engine light: A malfunctioning timing chain tensioner can trigger the engine's check engine light.
- Timing chain slack: If the timing chain tensioner becomes worn or damaged, it may not be able to apply sufficient tension to the timing chain, causing it to become slack or loose.
- Reduced engine power: A worn or damaged timing chain tensioner can cause the engine to lose power, especially at higher RPMs.
In general, timing chain tensioners do not need to be replaced unless they become worn, damaged or fail to function properly. Additionally, it is a good idea to replace the timing chain and guides at the same time as the timing chain tensioner.
